About XSB

Nearly every organization is drowning in data, but searching for intelligence. XSB turns data into actionable knowledge to help organizations and individuals make better decisions, faster.

Founded in 1998 by data scientists from SUNY Stony Brook, XSB uses an ensemble of AI-based applications to transform unstructured data into actionable intelligence and deliver previously unavailable knowledge to engineering-intensive organizations.

We combine, standardize, and analyze content from:

  • Proprietary data sources internal to an organization
  • Publicly available and open source data
  • Commercial data

We then deliver clean, semantically enriched, actionable data via API into critical enterprise applications such as PLM, MES, Office365, and business intelligence tools, enabling people, organizations, and machines to understand, share, and act upon large amounts of data and complex concepts.

What It Means For Your Organization

The result has been dramatic savings of time and cost, reduced supply chain risk, and improved outcomes for engineering organizations, public sector procurement and e-commerce vendors, and supply chain management teams.

Applied AI for Complex Products

Based on core research funded by the Department of Defense and supported by the XSB Prolog logic programming language developed by XSB, Inc.’s co-founder, Dr. David S. Warren, and his students and colleagues at Stony Brook University, XSB, Inc. has developed and patented technology to provide the data standardization, enrichment and transformation needed to solve impossibly laborious procurement, engineering and logistics problems. Our solutions are “systems of intelligence” for complex products delivering information insights to an enterprise’s systems of record or engagement via the SWISS API.

THE PRINCIPLES THAT DRIVE US

API First.

By delivering actionable intelligence into enterprise applications via API, end-users receive the information and knowledge they need *right where they need it*, rather than forcing them to modify their workflow or adopt yet another application in their overflowing toolbox. Engineers and procurement professionals don’t need another workbench, they need answers to questions that get them to the next step in their workflow, *directly in their workflow*.

AI as Enabler, Not as Magician.

Many companies offering AI solutions make wild claims about their capabilities and outcomes. XSB views AI, not as a magician, but as an enabler of insights and inferences that humans simply can’t see for themselves. We use AI to find relationships and patterns, to turn noisy data streams into logical signals, and to make actionable inferences that reduce time, cost, and risk in complex operations. It’s not magic, it’s a team of experts who know the capabilities and limits of AI and who work with you to optimize the results you need.

If Content is King, then Context is Queen.

At the start of the industrial Internet, organizations that gathered the most data were often the leaders in their industry. But this blunt instrument is not an advantage today unless there is context around the content. In all of our interactions with unstructured data, we seek to uncover context and insight to help organizations and individuals make better decisions faster. What data matters the most and why? What doesn’t matter at all? What are the latest changes, and how do those changes impact your operation, your product, your goals? What are the market signals and what are your competitors doing that you should know about? What are your vulnerabilities and how can you reduce risk? Where can you improve for the most ROI? These and many more are the contextual insights we deliver to help businesses turn content into knowledge using context.

The End of Duplicative Manual Labor.

Buyers and Suppliers, Item Managers and Catalogers, Engineers and other knowledge workers spend extraordinary amounts of time searching for answers across multiple databases, and in piles of static documents. They manually transcribe or copy/paste the answers (often in the form of text, tables, graphs, equations, and images) into other applications for other individuals or teams to use in their workflow. And this process is often duplicated for the same pieces of data as each successive user cascades the answers and requirements down to the next party in the supply chain. XSB is liberating organizations from this wasteful chasm of manual duplicative labor by delivering clean, semantically enriched, actionable data when and where it is needed.

It’s Time Now for Digital Twin Documents.

Advanced data formats like CAD, 3D-PDF, and digital twins have been the norm since the early ‘00s, fueling a massive jump in productivity and supply chain efficiency. But the underlying documents – industry specs and standards, requirements, test methods, internal corporate standards – that govern parts, materials, and processes have barely changed since the invention of PDF in the late 1990s. PDF was never meant to be an engineering information tool, and today, it causes more problems than it solves. It’s time now for engineering documents to become digital twin documents: a database-like collection of intelligent, interoperable, and reusable data elements that make up a network of related data points and concepts. Digital twin documents enable a new world of capabilities and value-added benefits that are impossible to achieve with PDF files and like their CAD counterparts, they will jumpstart another massive wave of productivity gains.
