The Manager, Digital Projects is responsible for planning and managing all digital conversion, onboarding, quality control, and curation projects. He or she will manage all projects from inception through completion, focusing on the digitization and quality control of content being converted to the NISO STS standard and XSB’s SWISS® standard. Responsibilities will include managing external vendors, coordinating internal resources, specifying the digitization and conversion work, and overseeing quality control and content onboarding. He or she will work in concert with other XSB management to ensure work is being done efficiently, at the highest possible quality, and consistently with XSB’s mission, strategies, and goals. He or she will balance current projects with the longer-term vision of establishing a world-class base of standards content that is curated and improved upon continuously over time.

Job Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Manage all phases of digitization projects, including project requirements and scoping, project launch, project oversight, QA, and wind-down
  • Manage external vendors: define project scope, collaborate on SOWs, manage progress and schedules, and proactively respond to technical problems
  • Maintain all core specifications and documentation, including DTDs and schemas where appropriate, conversion specifications, and QA instructions
  • Work with XSB technical staff on tools for content QA and uploading
  • Work with XSB technical leadership and staff on a technical roadmap for the content QA and uploading tools and mechanisms
  • Collaborate with other XSB staff on XSLT, Schematron or other tools that can enhance QA
  • Lead the development of test plans and testing for content processing
  • Help administer content management and editorial tools, including support and enhancements
  • Develop and maintain detailed technical understanding of the SWISS specification and the capabilities and technical roadmap of the XSB platform
  • Develop and maintain detailed technical understanding of XML markup language(s) for technical standards and specifications, including NISO STS
  • Develop and recommend new workflows, plan meetings with vendors and staff, and develop mechanisms to improve communication and reporting
  • Work with XSB technical and management teams and outside resources to specify, select, and help implement a system for content and document management, workflow, and reporting
  • Conceive of and lead other new initiatives that will help increase productivity, throughput, and quality for all digitization efforts
  • In coordination with XSB technical and management teams, work with prospective partners and clients on scoping and planning digitization and onboarding efforts
  • Provide timely, consistent, and accurate support to in-house staff in the use of XML production and publishing applications, tools, and technologies during the entire content lifecycle
  • Perform third-party software vendor communication and management as assigned
  • Work together with Senior Management to plan and execute projects
  • Coach and motivate other team members to achieve optimum performance levels
  • Quickly take ownership of projects

Technical Qualifications and Experience:

  • BS in a technical field or five or more years of equivalent experience
  • Project management certification or five or more years of equivalent experience
  • Three or more years prior experience leading XML digitization efforts for a Standards Development Organization (SDO), society, association, or related organization
  • Five or more years prior experience working with digital platforms in the STM space
  • Prior experience in a software development environment, working directly with software development teams preferred
  • Prior experience with agile software development methodology
  • Prior experience developing and documenting process documentation and best practices
  • Prior experience in vendor management
  • Prior experience with and/or exposure to XML technologies such as XML editors, XML content management systems, and MathFlow/MathType
  • Prior experience with and underlying/related technologies such as XML schemas, DTDs, MathML, XSLT, and HTML
